Canine mange is brought about by mites. Mange is the number one cause why canine handlers need to rid their pets’ dwelling of these unwanted ticks. Pests gnaw on the canine’s skin, contaminating the same with parasites that continue to plague the pet’s system.

Decades ago, persons were of the faith that canine mange was fatal. They thought that the moment a dog contacts mange, he is fated to suffer from a creeping sort of death, the kind that feeds away at his skin until his entire body goes down.

Such a thought, definitely, has been tested to be false. Canines that have canine mange can be saved. The answer is right treatment at the soonest possible time.

There are two types of canine mange:

1. Demodicosis or Red Mange. Of the 2 kinds of mange, this is the least dangerous. Demodicosis is not a transmittable type of disease. In truth, this kind of mange is caused by mites which wouldn’t otherwise be difficult to most pets. It just so happens that other pets have more delicate immune structures that cannot ward off the little infections caused by these mites, thus the spread of Red Mange. Demodicosis can be treated with specially formulated shampoo and/or the intake of drugs for a particular span of time.

2. Sarcoptic mange or canine scabies. This is the sort of mange that is caused by burrowing mites capable of highly catching disease. In truth, this kind of mange can be transmitted to other creatures and human beings as well. Such mange is distinguished by hair falling off from ears and knees in the beginning, and brutal breaking of the skin at later phases. Sarcoptic mange can be treated with the use of anti-parasite liquids like sulfurated lime rinses, Selamectin, and ivermectin. In all occurrences, a dog infected with sarcoptic mange should be isolated from some dogs and animals to prevent an outbreak.
